Star Murphy first discovered her vocal abilities at the age of seven. Since then, she has continued to work towards perfecting her craft. Her first live performance took place during a major Broadway production at her middle school. It was then where she performed her first solo, “What a Beautiful Morning,” and received a standing ovation. From that moment on, she realized her God given talents and found a love in performing. In high school, she joined the choir and became a founding chapter member of “Women of Music,” a music sorority where her line name was “Superstar.”
Star Murphy broke her way into the entertainment scene as a club promoter. She, along with her partner DJ Wheezy, became known for bringing several celebrities to Nashville and for performing at college parties to build a buzz for herself. Star Murphy has opened up for Bobby V, Tity Boi, Yo Gotti, Lloyd, Webbie, Boosie, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, Big K.R.I.T, Starlito, Plies, Drumma Boy, and R. Kelly just to name a few. She was able to enhance her buzz from local to regional and gain support from several DJ’s and has been on several radio stations including Music Choice with her first single “Swagg On” ft. Waka Flocka Flame released in 2010.
With a huge local following, Star was able to bring out over 1000 people for her birthday party 3 years in a row and gain a captive audience for her music. Her street single “Swagg On” ft. Waka Flocka Flame received over 20,000 downloads on hotnewhiphop.com. With much support for the single from radio stations across the country, she went on to release the official video for her new single “Let’s Do It” on Worldstarhiphop.com.
After the Release of her first mixtape in 2010 entitled “I Am StaR&B” with TapeMaster’s Inc. Star’s buzz soared where she was featured in many magazines, blogs, and publications such as the Urban News Music Network, World Star Hip-Hop, Smoking Section, Concrete Magazine, Singer’s Room, Ozone, Stevie Mack Blog Talk Radio, DV8, and the Nashville Scene just to name a few. With much more success from her dedication to music, Star Murphy took home the 2011 Hip Hop in the Ville R&B Artist of the Year Award and the prestigious Southern Entertainment Awards’ 2011 Independent R&B Artist of the Year Award. She was also nominated for the most prestigious Independent awards show in America, the Underground Music Awards, which is held in New York August 2011. She put on an astonishing performance at the 2011 UMA’s. In 2012 Star Murphy has graced many blogs and radio stations with her new single “Anywhere.” Its anthem is for all the self assured, positive females. The song is captivating with an intricate melody and a flawless vocal delivery by Ms Murphy. She has been doing countless shows, setting up merchandise, and interviews with stations such as Shade 45 and blogs such as Soul 2 Soul Music Buzz.
Star is currently in the studio preparing for her first EP entitled, “Trip to Egypt,” which is set to be released first quarter of 2013 and making great music for her fans all at once. Star Murphy not only delivers sensual vocals with each record, she also exemplifies the art of songwriting with each verse.
